Botox 101: What to Expect Before, During & After Your Appointment

New to Botox? Learn exactly what to expect before, during, and after your Botox appointment—including how it works, when you'll see results, and how to avoid that "frozen" look.

If you’ve been Botox-curious but lowkey terrified of looking frozen, fake, or like a Real Housewife gone rogue—we get it.

At Revive, we believe Botox should make you look like you, just a little smoother, less stressed, and well-rested. This is your no-pressure guide to what actually happens when you book a Botox appointment with us—from prep to results.

Before Your Botox Appointment

Here’s how to prep so you get the best results (and avoid bruising):

  • Skip alcohol, fish oil, and NSAIDs (like Advil) for 24–48 hours before

  • Come with a clean face. If you’re scooting over on lunch or after work though, we’ve got makeup wipes for you.

  • Know what areas you want to treat—or ask us during your consult. We LOVE questions and helping you figure this out!

  • Know medications and health history. This is a medical treatment and it’s important for us to have accurate info before we treat you.

  • Got a budget? Don’t be afraid to share! No needles will touch you until we’ve talked about it all, yes, even cost.

We’ll walk you through everything and answer any questions. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all treatment—it’s personalized and there will be nothing injected until you are completely comfortable and have your questions answered.

During Your Appointment

The whole thing takes about 20 minutes. Here’s what it looks like:

  • We’ll chat about your goals (forehead lines? "11s"? crow’s feet, lip flip?). How much movement do you want, if any?

  • You’ll fill out a health history form and we’ll talk about benefits, risks, duration, aftercare, and what to expect

  • We’ll clean with alcohol, map out your facial muscles and mark the areas to inject. This will also give a better idea of cost.

  • Depending on the areas to be injected, we may apply a numbing cream. Note that this will lengthen your appointment as it takes 15-20 minutes for the cream to work.

  • When we’re ready to inject feel a small pinch—most people say it’s like a bee-sting.

3. Aftercare: What to Do (and Not Do)

Good news, there’s zero down-time! You’re good to go back to your day—but keep these tips in mind:

  • Stay upright for 4–6 hours (no laying down or face-down yoga)

  • Skip workouts, facials, and saunas for 24 hours

  • Don’t rub or massage the treated areas

  • Minor swelling or redness is normal and fades quickly - usually before you’re even out of the office.

Your results will gradually appear over 3–10 days, with full effect around day 14.

How Long Does Botox Last?

Most clients enjoy smoother, softer skin for 3–4 months. With consistent treatments, some need even less over time.

We’ll help you plan a schedule that fits your goals—whether you want a one-time refresh or ongoing maintenance.

Will I Still Look Like Me?

YES. Our goal is to enhance, not erase.

You’ll still smile, raise your eyebrows, and look like you—just less tired, less tense, and more confident.

Forget the frozen face fear. When Botox is done right (by experienced, medically trained pros like us), it simply helps you look as good as you feel.

Final Thoughts

Botox shouldn’t feel scary or secretive. It’s a quick, effective way to feel refreshed, soften lines, and boost confidence—with zero downtime and natural-looking results.

If you’ve been curious, come in for a consult—we’ll talk through your goals, answer all your questions, and create a treatment plan that feels right for you.
